What is a one time password?

What is a one time password?

Your one-time password (OTP) is a six-digit security code sent to you by SMS or generated by your security token. It’s a quick, easy way of adding an extra layer of security when you pay someone new or make an important change to your account when using Internet Banking.

When do I need an OTP?

You’ll be sent an OTP for added security when you use Internet Banking to:

  • change a card PIN
  • add someone as a personal payee or update an existing payee
  • transfer funds to a new or unregistered payee
  • view or change your contact or account details
  • change your online banking Access Code
  • make a payment to a new payee

How do I get an OTP?

If you joined as a member after 23 September 2013? You’re registered to receive OTPs by SMS. Make sure we have your correct mobile number and have your mobile with you when you log into Internet Banking.

If you joined as a member before 23 September 2013? You may have:

A security token: a physical token that generates an OTP when you press a button.

The VIP Access app: available for mobile, tablet and desktop on Apple, Android and Windows devices, the VIP Access app generates a unique OTP even when you don’t have Wi-Fi or a mobile data connection.

If you’re registered for both SMS and a token, you can choose your preferred option each time you use Internet Banking.
