The sharing economy is all about sharing resources with our peers. This includes anything from our time, skills and tools to our assets or even our money.

    Here are 5 ways you can start making money through new revenue streams*, like the sharing economy today.

    Airtasker

    You don’t need to have a unique, highly-sought-after skill to earn extra money on the side, all you need is some free time. With Airtasker, you can get paid to complete everyday tasks for those who don’t have the time. Anything from cleaning someone's apartment, walking their dog or picking up their dry cleaning to mowing their lawn or taking out their bins. From $50 to assemble a trampoline to $200 for ironing some clothes, you can earn some serious cash by sharing your precious time.

    Car Next Door

    Many city-slickers prefer to get public transport to work through the week and save the car for weekends. Car Next Door is a peer-to-peer car sharing platform that allows you to rent out your car when you don’t need it to people in your suburb who do. Users can book your car directly through the platform and access the keys via a secure lock-box attached to the car, so you’re not inconvenienced at all. But what if I told you that you could spend time with the pooches and get paid for it? Alas, you can. Mad Paws connects pet owners with willing pet sitters in the neighbourhood. You can either have the pets over for a staycation at your place, or you can pet-sit at the owner's house. This is negotiated at the time of booking, as is the rate.
