Android devices include, but are not limited to Samsung, HTC, Nexus, Sony, LG, Huawei and Nokia. Note: Apple iPhone users are not impacted by this malware. UniBank's online and mobile banking is unaffected as this currently only impacts mobile banking apps, but other financial institutions have been affected. How the malware works The user downloads the file from a range of bogus domains including flashplayeerupdate.com, adobeflashplaayer.com and adobeplayerdownload.com. The malware then hides on a user’s mobile device until they launch a banking app. It then uses ‘screen scraping’ technology to take the log-in details of the user. Media reports mention a number of Australian and New Zealand financial institutions that have been affected. How to remove it from your Android phone If you bank with other financial institutions and are affected by the malware, it can be removed from your device by first decommissioning administrator rights for the app by going to Settings > Security > Device administrators > Flash Player > Deactivate. From there, you can uninstall the malware app in settings. Learn more about how we protect you online.
